Manage Borrower Portal Payments

Help lenders track and manage borrower-initiated payments from the Borrower Portal.

Updated over a month ago

Introduction

Understand how borrowers submit payments through the portal and what you need to review once a payment is made. You'll see what the borrower completes, how payments are confirmed, and where notifications appear in your system. This allows you to respond quickly and manage incoming funds.

Navigating to This Section

  1. Log in to the Borrower Portal.

  2. Click My Loans from the left-hand menu.

  3. Select a funded loan you want to pay.

  4. Click Make Payment to open the payment form.

Note: If a borrower does not see the Make Payment button in their portal, it is likely that the payment feature has not been enabled in your Borrower Portal Settings.

If you do not see the option to toggle on Allow USIO Borrower Payments in your settings, the integration may not be active for your organization. Please contact support for assistance.

What the Make Payment Button Does

The Make Payment button allows borrowers to submit a one-time debit card payment toward their loan. Borrowers can enter any amount, review any service fees, and complete the payment securely through the Borrower Portal.

What Happens After Payment Submission

After a borrower submits a payment, they will immediately see one of the following on-screen messages:

Message

Meaning

Success! Payment submitted successfully. You will be notified by email of your receipt of payment.

The payment was successfully submitted. The borrower will receive a payment receipt by email.

Error! Missing credentials.

There is an issue with the USIO connection setup. The borrower’s payment cannot be processed.

Error! Operation not valid on this card.

The borrower's card was rejected by the card issuer. The payment cannot be processed with that card.

  • Successful payments trigger a confirmation screen and a payment receipt email.

  • Payment processing typically takes 1–3 business days before funds are cleared.

  • Funds are not deducted until processing is completed.

Reminder: When a borrower submits a payment, you will receive an immediate notification. You must allocate the payment before it is posted to the loan ledger.

What You Need to Do as a Lender

When a borrower submits a payment through the Borrower Portal, a new line item will appear in the Payments, Adjustments, & Charges module. The payment will show as unallocated. You must manually allocate the payment to the correct outstanding balances, such as Principal, Outstanding Interest, or Fees.

Unallocated payments:

  • Are not reflected on the Loan Ledger.

  • Remain visible as outstanding on the borrower’s loan profile.

Warning: When a borrower submits a payment, it must be manually allocated by the lender before it is reflected in the Loan Ledger. Funds are not deducted from the borrower’s account until the payment clears through USIO, typically within 1–3 business days.
